About the Bands
The Bands of Ashley High School consists of many performance ensembles offered at Ashley High School, including Concert and Wind Ensembles, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pep Bands, Percussion Ensembles, and Solo/Small Ensembles. Our primary goal is to teach students how to become the best individual musician they can be while striving to meet the musical needs of our school and community.
Ensembles
1st Period Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is open to 10th -12th grade students with previous instruction in wind and percussion instruments by audition only. It consists of modern band instrumentation and provides instruction in common-practice period and twentieth century wind literature and transcriptions. The Symphonic Band is a class that meets 1st period (subject to change) every school day and performs several concerts and festivals each year. Private study is strongly encouraged for all members of the Symphonic Band. In addition, each member of the Symphonic Band is required to own a metronome and tuner (these can be combined in one standalone device).
2nd Period Concert Band
The Concert Band is comprised of 9th through 12th grade students with previous instruction in wind instruments. It consists of modern band instrumentation and provides instruction in common-practice period and twentieth century wind literature and transcriptions. The Concert Band is a class that meets 2nd period (subject to change) every school day and performs several concerts and festivals each year. Private study is encouraged for all members of the Concert Band.
4th Period Percussion Ensemble
The Percussion Ensemble is comprised of 9th-12th grade percussion students with previous percussion instruction and to beginning percussion students with Director Approval. Instruction is provided on all basic percussion instruments and accessory percussion instruments, mallets and timpani, as well as marching percussion during the marching band season. The Percussion Ensemble is a class that meets 4th period (subject to change) every school day. The Percussion Ensemble performs with the Concert and Symphonic Bands, as well as in small percussion ensembles at several concerts and festivals each year.  Following the marching season, the Percussion Ensemble may be active in the Indoor Percussion Circuit.
Virtual Academy
Virtual Academy student will follow the same course structure as the traditional band classes but will continue to meet in a virtual setting for the school year. More information is being developed for this course by NHCS.
